Mother of two, born in Jakarta 1986 and currently resides in Jakarta, Indonesia, Marisa completed her Master degree in Composition at Royal Holloway University of London in 2013.

She holds a Bachelor and a Professional degree in Pharmacy from University of Indonesia and Master Certificate in Arranging & Orchestration from Berklee College of Music. A composer, conductor and pianist, Marisa manages a music studio for children named Canzona Music School and co-founded Perempuan Komponis with 4 other colleagues, a platform for Indonesian women composers.

Winner of BBC Concert Orchestra Baroque Remixed Project 2012, her music was premiered by BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Charles Hazlewood at The Roundhouse, London, broadcasted on BBC Radio 3. In collaboration with Wayang Golek puppeteer Prof. Matthew Cohen, she composed and directed music for a puppet theatre performed at Royal Festival Hall in Southbank Centre as part of Gamelanathon event in 2013. At the same year, Marisa was appointed as one of London Symphony Orchestra Soundhub’s Phase II associate composers.

As the nation’s first and only composer in residence of an orchestra, a composer residence of Bandung Philharmonic and former composer in residence of Orkestra Simfoni UI Mahawaditra, she has initiated a number of Indonesian young composers competitions.

Awarded Celebrity Online Scholarship in the name of Juan Luis Guerra from Berklee in 2011, Marisa received Royal Holloway’s Travel Award: Dame Felicity Lott’s Bursary to pursuit her conducting experiences in 2013. In 2016 Marisa joined Bandung Philharmonic’s conducting fellowship, receiving guidance and tutorial from conductor Robert Nordling. Marisa became the conductor of Orkestra Simfoni Universitas Indonesia Mahawaditra in 2015-2017 and later composer in residence of the orchestra in 2017-2020 while was also named composer in residence for Bandung Philharmonic since 2018 until today.

She has received commissions and her music has been premiered internationally by notorious ensembles such as BBC Concert Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra members, Hebrides Ensemble, CHROMA Ensemble, Quatuor Bozzini, Contemporary Consort, National Taiwan Philharmonic, Lake Forest Civic Orchestra Chicago, The Esoterics Vocal Ensemble, Bandung Philharmonic, Jakarta City Philharmonic, Jakarta Concert Orchestra, Orkes Simfoni Mahawaditra, ACME Strings orchestra, violist Michael Hall, trombonist Philip Brink, Vario Duo -Manu Brazo (saxophone), Prajna Indrawati (piano), Amelia Tionanda (violin) and Ensemble Tiamori, Ronny Gunawan (flute) and strings, ITB Choral Festival 2014, Purwacaraka Music School Children Choir, Seraphim Cantabile Choir, Penabur Choir, D’artbeat Musical Productions and Canzona Music School.

Her music has been heard at prestigious concert halls in London, Oxford, Orkney (Scotland), Brussels, Chicago, Michigan,Seattle, Cincinnati USA, Australia, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Bali, Jakarta, Jogjakarta, Bandung, Malang, Depok in international music festival like Asian Composers League in Taiwan, St Magnus International Music Festival in Orkney Scotland, Baroque on Beaver Music Festival in Michigan USA, Bowling Green State University New Music Festival, Australian International Music Festival, Bach in Bali Festival, Salihara International Performing Arts Festival, Singapore International Choral Festival.

Having perfect-pitch ears, her music influences span from Stravinsky, Dvorak, Debussy, John Adams, Arvo Part, jazz music, to Indonesian folklore. Her music flourished under the tuition of Robert Nordling, Denise Ham, Levin Parikian and Budi Utomo Prabowo (conducting), Mark Bowden, Jerry Gates, Ben Newhouse, Haryo Soejoto (composition and orchestration), Iravati M Sudiarso, Aminoto Kosin (piano), Adidharma Wijaya (violin), I Gusti Kompyang Raka (balinese gamelan), Simon Cook (sundanese gamelan).

As a pianist she has traveled to all major islands in Indonesia and served throughout the archipelago as an accompanist for many national choral festivals, she has also accompanied singers for concerts and recitals, and accompanied TV talkshows on national TV.
